BONUS POST: HALLOWEEN 2009

We made it thru Halloween 2009. (and feliz dia de los muertos en mexico!)

While I wish I was still able to trick or treat, we had our fair share of playing dress up. There is something magical abotu Halloween that never gets old (and the fact that I still have no idea where the holiday comes from). I must say- it was fun to see everyones creativity get the best of them, and most of the costumes were very nicley put together (there were fewer trashy hooches than usual).

Favorite costumes of the night (besides mine and my friends):

1. Super Mario

2. Yellow Brick Rd (home made costume- serious bonus points)

3. Lady GaGa (so legit- done by the girl down the hall AND Perez!)

4. Gingerbread Man

5. Old Time Movie Stars

6. Rocks, Paper, Scissors (3 person deal)

First Off...a little back drop on the costume thing. So my 8 friends and I were lied to and put in to an all female dorm (Williams Hall). We didn't know until we moved in and reslife couldn't do anything to accommodate us (long story). ANYWAY... Some of the lovely roommates thought that we should voice our anger thru our costumes, becoming the "Williams All Female Penitentiary". So Henry, suck a fat one;)

So here we have the lovely "williams women", my fab 8 roommates. Everyone did something different with the prisioner motiff and I think for a group costume, it was BEYOND successful. Most of the pieces are from American Apparel (who else would have such a color) but I went online to a textile company and was able to find an awesome prision jumpsuit that after some alterations and a belt was able to read as something fun and different. All the costumes were steciled with "FREE WILLY...Williams All Female Penentiary" and we each had a barcode. Very fun, colorful and different.

My fishnets were actually a HUGE asset to the costume and were the pattern of barbwire.

You might not know what is all over Janelle's neck (far left) but that was Eileen's genius idea of temporary tattoos! Instead of going all dirty filth with the prision tat, we had fun playing with glitter temporary tats. I think these could be a regular weekday/ weekend occurance.

Now even though I didn't get to see the beauitful Emily on Halloween, we had been talking about her costume and I think it turned out absolutley amazing. That fur coat was an absolute STEAL for $14 at the Garmet district and her red hair done up all curly and sheekand fab screams old time movie star. KD's dress is to die for and her bangs look like perfection. Ladies, I must say, some of the prettiest and classiest outfits up on the Heights for the 2009 spookin season.

There is never a lack of creative costumes at Vassar, we go hardcore. We had a couple days of dress up over the weekend too, which was really fun for everyone. The first dress up event was Trick or Treating at the Lehman Loeb, the art musuem on campus, and you had to dress up like your favorite painting, or any piece of art. My friends went all out on this one.

Carrie was Diane Arbus's photograph Boy with the Hand Grenade. Mitchell was Girl with the Pearl Earring. Zan rocked it out in a crazy Pollock style dress. Lizzie looked elegant in her Madame X interpretation. All in all it was fun to get dressed up.

There were a lot of cute costumes on Halloween itself. The backstory to my costume was that my friend Carrie had been planning on being Madeline, and then I was like, to myself, well I should be a Carrie, so Carrie was being Madeline and Madeline was being Carrie. Well obviously the best Carrie to be is Carrie Bradshaw. So I paid homage to one of the most fashionable characters on television and mimicked her outfit from the opening scene in the show. And I threw on a fur coat, to deal with the cold. This was ultimately a success.

For my photography class, we were assigned to shoot Halloween, and so my friend Zan and I set up a photography shoot in one of the dorm basements. The results wielded a lot of fun, and some cute pictures.

Taylor was dressed as Audrey Hepburn in Holly Golightly - chic, simple and fabulous.

There were so many cute costumes I could go on and on and on forever about them all. But I do have to give special mention to the weekend MVP for fabulous costumes. You already saw him as The Girl with the Pearl Earring, but the costumes kept coming and coming. On friday Mitchell brought out his drag persona, Medea, to go out. Boy she is fabulous. She has some new hair, and never before has she gotten so much attention.
Then later on Saturday he dressed up for the last soccer game. THe whole team got a kick out of Mitch's bat wings flapping everytime he cheered.
Then the big hurrah - his official Halloween costume. Mitchell was a phoenix. All of those feathers and all the glitter - homemade. This is how you do a costume.

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous.

Hope you had fun on Halloween too!
