Playground Fashion

My summer so far has been child fill (not my own, thank g-d)... with so much time spent at the playground, i have decided a post needs to be dedicated to "playground fashion". growing up, i am 98% sure that i would never have worn a dress to a playground. now a days (a feel like a grandma), 9.5/10 girls are wearing sundresses and skirts- and if i had a nickle for every lilly pultizer i saw there, i'd be rich. in my opinion, its just absurd. just this past thursday, a little girl was sitting legs apart in a sand box- now how grimey is that?! not only were sand fleas probably harassing her in inappropriate places, but her WHITE eyelet dress was stained and dirty in ways i'm sure her mom didn't even imagine. sure the girl was having buckets of fun, but couldn't she have done the same in a cute little romper or shirt/ tank combo?

i dont have much to say about little boys in the park, because most wouldn't be caught dead in anything lilly. i do love when a little 3 year old has a polo on, they're just so darn cute! one of the biggest peeves i have about little boys in the park (besides when they run around BAREFOOT- EW), is when they have on pork-pie hats. FORSERIOUS? Are we fishing? Pork- Pie hats are so 1997, and it kills me. Maybe the worst thing I have seen to date at the playground (and i even pointed it out to my 3 year old cousin) was a mom and son wearing MATCHING (yes, MATCHING) pork- pie hats. that friends, is a tragedy. purchase a baseball hat and welcome to the 21st century.

besides the kids (who really probably don't have much say in the garb they wear to the playground), it is TOO fun to spot out moms, nannies and babysitters (of course, people could be doing the same to me). At the playground I have been spending the most time at (I'm not a predator, i SWEAR), there is a CLEAR distinction between moms and nannies. Not only is it Wellesley, so every mom has someone working for them AND they wouldn't DARE touch a filthy child, but the mom's are wearing Polo, Lilly (to match the kids), Vineyard Vines, and Lululemon while the nannies are literally wearing whatever the hell they want (and many are dressed "so European"). My favorite nanny outfit was on a plumper woman, probably around 29-33 years old... she had TIGHT (i'm talking how did you get those on, tight) black shorts and a black and white (TIGHT again) tube top (picture a ref uniform)...to top it off, there was serious gold bling action. i took a picture to send to my mom. it was THAT good.

so, let me know, am i nuts? should little girls be sitting in sand and sliding down slides in $100 dresses? are pork pie hats really that abysmal? mom vs. babysitter/ nanny outfits- WHATS YOUR TAKE?

Friends, Near and Far

So I know Maddie just posted but I've had the urge to blog all weekend. So don't be lazy, scroll down and checkout those kickin' dresses/ skirts/ wedges that we will be hunting for this summer:)

I got home Thursday and it's been one whirlwind after another. From trying to unpack, to constant babysitting and then my brother's graduation weekend, this is the first time I've really plopped myself down... and man, does it feel classy. So Cheers to Dan for graduating with his MBA this weekend- everyone is so proud of you, and man, what a feat to accomplish in a year!

This leads me to my topic for this post (hold on, the connection will come): friends. This past weekend my family spent the weekend celebrating with my mom's best camp friend and her family. We've grown up in separate states (Maine and Mass) yet when we get together it's like we've never been apart. The jokes start flying, the laughing doesn't stop and the interrogations are hilarious and NON-stop. We look forward to our reunions- they are few and far between now a days- but being with them made me realize how one of a kind true friends are. Just moments after they left I had to say goodbye to Janelle, and then BAM, the house was near silent (minus Ozzi who was still panting from eating 1/2 dozen pastries...).

Sorry about this epic setup (it's dragging, I know). So, here's to you FRIEND. Here are some pictures: straight up friendship exploding from their very quadrants... happiness. raw emotion. real smiles. real love. these types of things can't be contained. these, MY FRIENDS, are portraits of friendship...

friendship is so real. embrace it and appreciate it. love it. love you.

Long Time no See

Alright so I have officially only one more final left. That means I am almost halfway done with my college career, which is scary. It also means I have done my fair share of procrastinating, leading me to these fabulous online finds! Some things that have caught my internet browsing eye over the past weeks or so!

Wedges: I never thought I would come around to wedges, but I found a few pairs I could come to terms with.

These two are the same pair in different colors. I like how the straps totally embrace the chunky quality of the heel as a whole. Pretending they are dainty is silly. Also, platform is great. And then we have this next pair, which I would die for. DIE for.

So cute, and beautiful. Love Moschino!
This is just a cute top I found. I really like the sleeves and use of lace, very comfortable and elegant.

This is a small picture but I am in love with these pants! I bought some and can't wait to wear them to work this summer. I love the slouchy quality of them and how hot they will look with some heels.

I rarely like this type of skirt, but this one made the cut. I was surprised at how cute it was, and I think it would be really versatile. Its like a sophisticated American Apparel skirt.

Like many people my age, internships have been on my mind lately. The most pleasant thing about internships is the outfits you get to wear to them! So I've had my eye out for some cute sheath dresses, which I consider to be very sophisticated and work appropriate, but with the opportunity to be youthful and creative at the sam time. Here are some I liked.

This last picture showcases what I think is a really unique belt placement. I dragged this onto my desktop so I wouldn't forget it! Definitely something to try out.

Hope everyone survives finals and gets their mind thinking about summer soon! Its on its way!

Thanks, Mom.

Happy Mother's Day, Mothers!!

I would just like to take this blog post to thank MY mom for being well, MY mom. If you even just kinda know me, you know that my family is the most important thing in the world to me and my mom is the central player to that. She rules the roost and does it in style. I wouldn't be half the person I am today if it were not for Nanc. Even though she thought it was OK to brush out my crazy Jew curls until 8th grade... on this day of mother's I am going to finally forgive her. My mom is the strongest, most capable and creative woman I know. Always on the move, nothing stops her or keeps her down (not even a frizzy hair day!).

When people say that I am becoming more and more like Nanc every day, I take it as a huge compliment. I aspire to be such a caring, compassionate, loving and "with it" mom one day (in the way off future, don't worry). I would be pretty much nothing without my mom; she still kisses my scrapes and pushes me out the door to see what awaits me each day. Whether sitting at the kitchen table, or cuddling in bed I know I can always count on my mom for the best advice, gossip or chuckle. My mom is not only MY inspiration and leader but is the same to her friends and my friends alike.

Now. For the "fashion-y" part. Truth be told: Nanc and I have a weakness for shopping. We love following the latest trends and then searching for them weeks later in the Bloomies sale section. We share an obsession for shoes and handbags (and killer sweatpant outfits!) that cannot be matched and the two of us are a dream team for people watching. Not just because she's my mom, but Nanc always looks put together and great. You are not going to see her pulling the baseball cap and dark glasses look in aisle 2 of the supermarket- so not her style. Here are a few of my favorite outfits:

So on this day of mothers, the mother of all shout outs is going to you, Mom. I love you and cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for me and taught me.

As always, "I love you like a fat kid loves cake".

inspiration

as i sit and struggle to study for my impending finals (and doom?) what would be better than blogging. although this might not be the typical SIMP post, let me know what you think...

here are the things I have been finding comforting and inspirational.

1. the developmentally disabled community

2. turkey and brie sandwiches on cranberry bread

3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyG1FG3H6rY (seriously, this video will make you want to start boppin your head and make you smile SO BIG)

4. "fight and fuck and run and smile. smile because the older you get, the less you will. so yes, "quit being such a g-ddamn pussy" because bitching, whining and worrying never made anything better."

5. tissue paper flowers (i now have a garden on my ceiling just cuz)

6. painting (a little layered image action, stay tuned for my next one, im SOOO excited for it:) )

7. sign language

8. frida kahlo

9. REAL people with raw emotion and tangible love and feelings; As Dr. Seuss once said" those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter"... be a hipster, wear a quirky pattern of nail polish, get your bikini waxed (OR NOT), eat a mango, give a hug, send a brave text...

"take chances, get messy, make mistakes."- thank you miss frizzle.
and until next time friends, keep it real. so much love. (and bueno suerte on finals!)
